Textula Pinoy: Cellphone Text Poetry Writing Contest

The National Commission for Culture & the Arts, in cooperation with the
Filipinas Institute of Translation, Inc., Globe Telecoms, and the UP
Institute of Creative Writing, has launched TEXTULA PINOY, a text (SMS)
poetry-writing contest. The contest aims to popularize and revitalize the tradition of one of the oldest forms of poetry by using modern technology. A proverb is a short poem commonly composed of two versified rhyming lines. Each line consists of eight syllables, expressing a complete thought. TEXTULA PINOY entries must be written in Filipino and must express love of nature. For example:

1. Sa sampapel na sinayang,
Libong gubat ang pinaslang.

2. Pag gubat inalagaan,
Aani ang sambayanan.

Contestants must submit their entries, by text, to any of the following
numbers:

09279245242 or 09279245243. Entries will be received anytime from
Monday to Friday but not later than 5 p.m. Friday of each contest week. Every
week for the month of February, judges will pick two winners (Text
Makata ng Linggo) who will receive P 5, 000 each. Eight consolation
prizes of P 2,000 each will also be awarded. The winning entries will be compiled
in a book which will be released at the awarding ceremonies. For inquiries,
please call 922-1830.
